As you probably know there are dozens of various theories out there for child rearing and I have enjoyed reading about the various opinions on training your baby to go to sleep. I have two books on the coffee table right now speaking of two opposite opinions. One along the lines of feeding on demand and sleeping your baby in bed with you. The other, feeding the baby on a schedule and teaching him to soothe himself to sleep. We have decided that having Micah on a schedule is the best option for our family.
So, I have been working with Micah for a couple of weeks now to soothe himself to sleep. He has done pretty well from the beginning although I have had to let him cry a few times, but not as much as I thought I would. He usually only cries when he's really tired and frustrated about it. Well tonight after dinner I went and laid Micah in the crib, turned on his "Baby Praise" music, gave him a few pats on the back and left. (Not even using a pacifier anymore. He seems more calm without it). About 20 minutes later I went back in to check on him. He was still awake!!! Not crying, not fussing, not squirming... just looking at the sheep on the bumpers around the crib. He moved his head to the other side a few times for a change of scenery I suppose. It was one of the sweetest moments. Watching my sweet little baby boy just lay there calmly as he slowly drifted to sleep was one of those beautiful moments I will always remember.
The little man is sleeping through the night now and doing great on his daily schedule. He's growing like crazy! It's just amazing. I had to put his newborn things away today as he has grown out of them and is wearing mostly 3-6 month things already. Of course, they fit him perfect in length, but continue to be a little baggy around the neck and torso. haha Looks like I'm gonna be passed up in height in no time. I'll have two tall boys running around my house and me just a little 5 foot wonder with a strained neck from looking up all the time. haha
Oh well... you'd be proud of Micah. He's doing so well.
I planned to post some video today, but I'm having problems getting it uploaded. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.
